Some of my dramatic notes about the changes will now follow:
We are on the eve of the greatest changes to industry ever. No pun intended.
CCP could have been quoted as saying: "All your spreadsheet are belong to us."
CCP has hit the rest button on all of our spreadsheets. This might as well be day one save for the amount of investment ready isk players have.
Its been a couple days since I wrote down my knee jerk reactions to the different industry changes. I am having a hard time swallowing the complete overhaul. I think if they would have spread out these devblogs over the past four months instead of the last two weeks the reaction of the industrial player base may have been sated some what. Instead we got a complete overhaul of the 3 levels of the industry system plus some extra all in a two week span.
Level 1 Refining: Reprocess all the things
Level 2 Blueprints: Researching, the Future
Level 3 Manufacturing: The Price of Change and Building Better Worlds and Industry UI
Extra Random Sauce: Team Up(Not actually teams just npc, isk sink, bonus things.)
I get it though, I get that refining needs some tweaks. I understand that blueprints needed some work. I realize the slot system and pricing fix were inevitable to better scale with the growth of the game. The teams thing just goes a little far into the realm of needless complication. Either way it just got a whole lot harder for a newbro looking to start into the manufacturing game. It will be tough to compete against well established manufacturing operations.
I do like the new UI though, the layout and design looks really nice.

What do I think of the Industry Changes?

Operation: Ice Mining
I want to update you a little bit as to what I am doing in game right now. My last gameplay update was when I mentioned I was moving from my home system. I have been there for about 2 months now and I am settling in nicely. I have been investing in implants for the long term and spent most of December just updating skills and letting my investments on the market slowly sell out.
I started doing a little ice mining for kicks. I thought mining was the most boring activity in Eve but it turns out ice mining has it beat. You basically fly out to the ice anomalies when they spawn and lock up some ice and start the modules. You wait thirty minutes and go dump your load. The belts only last about forty five minutes or so in high traffic areas.
It suits my play style because I am usually just checking market orders and updating my PI operations so ice mining isn't to bad of a sit in space activity.

Reaction to Odyssey 1.1 Changes
Industrial Ship Changes - They have put the fun into a 14 day old pilots hands. Given you can't fly industrials during a trial account. I was an industrial player from the get go. I would make trip after trip hauling ore this way and that for a little profit.
These new specilized bays give power to new players and utility to old ones. You now have more options and more choices. Lets take a look at these ships and what they mean for you in terms of real utility.
Miasmos - Ore, Ice and Gas bay allows younger players and miners to get ore back to market hubs or refineries easier expect a lot more ore in trade hubs.
Epithal - PI bay the ship I am looking forward to the most. If you even run a causal amount of PI without deep skills into an industrial ship you know how frustrating it can be to move commodities back and forth when your managing 5 or 10 different planets across several characters.
Kyros- Mineral Bay same as ore bay increase movement in minerals around New Eden escpessialy for younger players.
Hoarder - Ammo Bay aside from the PI bay I think this has limited uses, its one more option and we have established choice is a good thing.
Iteron, Wreathe, Badger, Sigil - Faster AU ships I do a lot of my own hauling I except these to replace my Iteron V for quick trips here and there. I just don't have that much time to fly around space. The only thing better than having more options is saving time in game and these ships are a win win.
In other areas renaming and consolidating the layout of skills is a natural simplification that of course the blog Eve Simplified loves.
Lowering the timer for jump clones - Again a great option that makes an already powerful feature in the game even more powerful. Along with the option to create even more jump clones.
A great set of new features to what might seem like a simple patch. These are all the changes that caught my eye. Check out all the changes at the Features and Ideas Discussion Thread on the forums. Patch notes can be found here.

Operation Mining Laser Upgrade 1
A couple of weeks ago I just happen to be in game when some one decided they wanted to buy out the entire Mining Laser Upgrade 1 market, don't ask I don't get it either. Not only had I just returned from jita with about 1,500 of them literally minutes before they started buying them out but I had already posted a few market orders in a couple systems before the buyout. I was able to not only sell my stock for triple what it was worth but also ride the resulting bubble making 100k a unit for about 5 days. Total profit about 40 million. I'm not jumping into retirement any time soon but the laughs were what really counts.

Bumping AFK Miniers
First a quick background of the last year. When solo mining, before August last year, you had to mining using jet cans if you were solo. You would fill up your inventory with minerals and then transfer them to your jet can then pick them up with your industrial ship and ship them to where ever. After August last year all the mining ships cargo holds were increased so mining ships have a larger ore hold where all the ore goes now so you don't usually have to dump everything into space containers to mine for extended periods of time. This practice was known as can flipping, it was a way to make piss miners off or harass them or just to steal their stuff.
Now a days mining ships have such a large ore hold you can literately sit afk on the belt and mine asteroids. So a bunch of people thought it would be funny to start pushing people away from the belts if their afk. In fact a guy by the name of James 315 has a massive organized group of players that run around harassing miners some afk some not. Anyway check out all of there mobo jumbo at minerbumping.com. I would deal with miner bumpers and the like the same way I would can flippers, ignore them move on and go have fun somewhere else.
The vid above is just some shots of people messing around bumping afk miners. Keep in mind this video was released long before minerbumping.com or the "New Order" so its nothing new.

Investment Guide: Basic Mining
The Goal:
Skill up the most basic mining skills to start your adventure as a miner. For the most part everyone tries mining at least once in their Eve career. It is one of the most basic and simplistic income generating operations in the game. I personally started out mining myself and it gave me the funds I use today to have fun with. So try it out once it is not for everyone and can be very slow type of game play.
The Skills:
Mining - Skill at using mining lasers. 5% bonus to mining turret yield per skill level.
Mining Upgrades - Skill at using mining upgrades. 5% reduction per skill level in CPU penalty of mining upgrade modules.
Drones - Skill at remote controlling drones. Can operate 1 drone per skill level.
Mining Drone Operation - Skill at controlling mining drones. 5% Bonus to mining drone yield per skill level.
Afterburner - Skill at using afterburners. 10% bonus to Afterburner duration per skill level.
Shield Operation(This may be trained already.) - Skill at operating a spaceship's shield systems, including the use of shield boosters and other basic shield modules. 5% reduction in shield recharge time per skill level.
The Equipment:
If you haven't done the career agent tutorials you will be given a Venture and the skills to fly it. Remember with this fit you don't have any offensive weapons which means you need to mine in either 1.0 or 0.9 sec space. In 0.8 sec space and below enemy npc's or belt rats as they are called will shot you. So switch out your mining drones for some offensive drones like Hobgoblin I.

For more up to date mining fits see the Venture fits on the UniWiki.
Total Cost:
1,069,500 isk not to be bad if your just finishing up the career agent tutorials and need to make a little isk before you move into your favorite play style be it missions or pvp whatever keeps your ship in orbit.
Time Required:
The Miner I and Miner II cycle time is 60 seconds. The asteroids will vary in size and take you around 4 to 6 cycles to completely mine out. Your second limiting factor is your cargo size. Once your full you can either fly and sell at market or drop it off in a nearby station I found in a frigate it takes me about 60 seconds to fly from one gate to the next. Hope this helps you get started in all your mining fun. P.S. As a miner bring a book or find some good internet articles to read mining can be slow going.
Other Resources:
Halada's Complete Miners Guide a little out of date but the mining times and amount charts are still up to date and provide the most in depth analysis on the subject anywhere.
